When your Loved one has Passed Away

Please accept our sincere sympathy, when someone passes away even if the death was expected it can be a difficult and emotional time.

It is important you take your time and gather your thoughts and when you and your family are ready, let us know any wishes your loved one or family have expressed for the funeral to reflect your loved one’s life. We do not put pressure on you or your family.

We understand it’s a difficult time and we hope to make the process as easy for you as we can, we will do everything we can to help you through the next few days, weeks, or for as long as you need us by providing you with advice, guidance and emotional support.

If the death occurs at home, contact your loved one’s doctors as soon as possible, once the doctor has attended you should contact us either day or night and we will arrange for your loved one to be bought into our chapel of rest.

If death occurs in a nursing home, the nursing home staff will contact your loved one’s doctor on your behalf, once the doctor has attended you should contact us either day or night and we will arrange for your loved one to be bought into our chapel of rest.

Your loved one’s doctor or on-call doctor will attend, the doctor may write out the Medical Cause of Death Certificate when they call to certify the death, or they may suggest you collect it from the surgery. If the Doctor cannot issue this certificate, the death may be referred to the Coroner.

If death occurs in hospital, the ward staff will make an appointment for you with the Bereavement Office at the hospital. They can provide you with information, and in some hospital’s you can register the death at the Bereavement Office.
If a death occurs suddenly or unexpectedly or your loved one has not seen a doctor in the last 14 days then the death will be referred to the Coroner’s, regardless of where the death occurs. If the death has been referred to the Coroner’s they will issue a Medical Certificate of Death and we can collect this for you. In some case’s the Coroner may issue an interim certificate to enable the funeral to take place before they conclude their investigation.

Caring for your Loved One

Your loved one will be transported carefully and respectfully from the place of death to our funeral home in our private ambulance, whilst your loved one is in our care, we will treat them with dignity and respect at all times.
If you require embalming this is a service we can provide (embalming slows down nature taking its cause).

Funeral Arrangements

Our commitment to you begins the moment you contact us by phone day or night or visiting us personally at our funeral home.

Once you are ready we will then personally transfer your loved one from there place of passing to our chapel of rest.
When you are ready to make the funeral arrangements, we can come and visit you in the comfort of your own home or make an appointment for you to come into our warm welcoming funeral home.

Funeral Fee’s and Third Party Fee’s

Please refer to our price list for the cost of our professional services.

If you need any further advice in regards to our price’s, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Third-Party fees are not our professional fee’s. Such as the fees for the crematorium or cemetery, officiant who may be leading the service, the organist and verger if the person who has sadly passed away is going to be cremated, then we pay the two doctors who complete Cremation Certificates which allows the Cremation to take place.

Help with Funeral Fee’s

If there is not enough funds to cover the funeral cost’s you may be entitled to help from The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) if you are receiving universal credit.

DWP may or may not help with the funerals cost’s but please visit www.dwp.gov.uk for more information.
If you know you may have financial difficulty meeting the funeral fees, please let us know we are happy to advise and help you.

If you instruct us to make the funeral arrangements then you are taking financial responsibility for the funeral account in full.

Solicitors

If your loved one has contacted a solicitor in the past it is important you contact them as soon as possible, if a Will has been made then this can be checked to make sure that we are carrying out your loved ones wishes correctly. The solicitors can also assist you with debts, letters of representation and any other matters/concerns you may have.

Advice on Probate

Once someone has passed away, the granting of probate is the first step in the legal process of administering the estate of a deceased person, resolving all claims and distributing the deceased person’s property under a will.
You will need to get the legal right to deal with their property, money and possessions (their ‘estate’).
You may be able to apply for a ‘grant of representation’ – known as ‘probate’.
You don’t normally need a grant if their estate has either been passed to the surviving spouse or civil partner because it was held in joint names, for example, a savings account and it does not include land, property or shares.
For further information please visit www.gov.uk/wills-probate-inheritance

Cremated Remains

It is not always easy to realise the emotional effects that is gained after a funeral, by having somewhere to go, a place that you and your family can go back to knowing your loved one is there. We will collect cremated remains from the crematorium and will look after them for 30 days; you may incur extra charges if no arrangement has been made with us in this time.

We are able to assist you in any interments or scattering of the remains.
We also have a wide range of urns and scatter tubes.

Donations to Charity

If donations are required, we will collect and administer them for you through our Much loved page within our professional fees. If you wish for donations to be collected at the funeral service/thanksgiving service there will be a charge for this. We will keep a charity account open for 4 weeks after the funeral, then we will forward the donations onto the relevant charity(s).

Memorials

A Memorial or headstone is a lasting tribute which can be situated after the recommended time.
If our stonemasons have removed a memorial to allow a burial to take place, we will ask our stonemason to send you a report on any restoration work that may be required. We will then wait for further instructions from you regarding any inscriptions or cleaning you may request.

For all new graves, or graves that are re-opened that do not have a memorial, our stonemason will send you our memorial brochure along with a price list after a month, unless you instruct us otherwise.
We are happy to discuss all memorial matters you may have but there is also information on our website at www.jacksonbrowningfunerals.co.uk/memorials
